Romania: Ursus Breweries is the new name for SABMiller operations in Romania
Ursus Breweries is the new name for SABMiller’s operations in Romania, SABMiller announced on June 14. Ursus Breweries has in its portfolio Ursus, Timiºoreana, Ciucaº, Peroni and Pilsner Urquell brands.

It is a historical moment for our company as we are proud to unite 4 traditional breweries in Romania under a strong name that will support our Romanian and international brands. Growing revenues for Ursus Breweries. In the financial year April 2004 – March 2005, the Company recorded a 15% growth of its sales volume compared to the previous year and 122 million Euro in turnover. In the same period, Ursus Premium and Timisoreana Lux were the brands with the strongest sales growth, Ursus Premium registering an increase of 58% and Timisoreana Lux 103%.
A very good year for SABMiller. SABMiller Group recorded important increases of its sales volume, profit and revenues for the third consecutive year. Between April 2004 and March 2005, the company’s revenues increased to USD 2,409 million, 35% more than in the previous year. In Europe, the Group recorded its best results in Poland, Russia and Romania, due to a favourable economic context, the increase of the beer consumption per capita and the improvement in the operational execution of the companies.
Ursus Breweries, a subsidiary of SABMiller plc, is the second largest brewer on the Romanian market with an annual estimated market share of 24%. Ursus Breweries currently owns 4 breweries with a total capacity exceeding 3 million hectolitres and employs about 1,300 people. It has operations in Cluj-Napoca, Timiºoara, Buzãu, Braºov and Tunari. The brands owned by Ursus Breweries are Ursus, Timiºoreana, Ciucaº, Peroni and Pilsner Urquell.
